An inclinometer or clinometer is an instrument for measuring angles of slope (or tilt), elevation or depression of an object with respect to gravity. They are typically found on the bridge of a ship; used for measuring the list of a ship in still water and the roll in rough water.

This Clinometer is an usually large example with engraved brass back plate and pendulum made from solid cast brass. Circa 1920.
