on London's Walton Street, is not a traditional antiques shop. We specialise in the finest
quality British vintage luggage and luxury accessories. We also have collections devoted to
vintage Louis Vuitton trunks, cigar related antiques from the 1920s and a selection of
fine campaign furniture from the nineteenth century.
You might find a beautiful Georgian leather dispatch bag from the 1750s with a hand
engraved brass lock hanging from an enormous pair of polished aluminium binoculars, mounted
on a wooden tripod from a WWII battleship. A mahogany four blade propeller from a 1920s
de Havilland Moth biplane, one of only three built, is propped up against a late
nineteenth-century bespoke leather-covered Louis Vuitton trunk. These are pieces from an era when
craftsmen could exceed your expectations, when price was not a consideration and the
great houses of Asprey, Louis Vuitton and Hermes were establishing their reputations.
"The Best is Good Enough" is the shop's motto and Tim Bent, who
founded the business in 1989, buys each piece with that in mind. "I admire the
fanatical attention to detail. The pieces are unusual, elegant and understated. They are
not life's necessities, they are pure indulgence."
Candace Bushnell, author of 'Sex and the City', was quoted in ES magazine, when
asked "Which shop could you not live without?" "I go to Bentleys on
Walton Street all the time. It's full of old Louis Vuitton trunks and Twenties picnic
baskets for £10,000. I told the owner, 'It's filled with things that nobody would ever
need.' He said, 'I know. That's exactly the point.'"
